King Ceasor University registered their maiden victory in the Pepsi University Football League with a 2-0 win over Soroti University in Soroti City on Saturday.

The Ggaba Road-based side, who joined the university league last season, endured a difficult debut campaign in which they managed to score just one goal. However, they began the new season on a promising note, claiming all three points away from home.

Under coach Derrick Kasumba, King Ceasor started brightly and nearly took the lead in the second minute, but Mugerwa Joachim failed to convert an early scoring opportunity.

The visitors quickly identified weaknesses in Soroti’s defence, particularly its struggles to deal with long balls played behind the defensive line. Their approach paid off in the 25th minute when Kayondo Devis finished with a first-time effort after connecting with a long pass from Magala Hassan to give King Ceasor the lead.

Soroti had an opportunity to restore parity four minutes later, but Aelenyu Allan fired wide when well placed.

Devis missed two more opportunities before the interval as King Ceasor went into the break with a slender advantage.

The visitors maintained the same approach after the restart, continuing to exploit the space behind Soroti’s defence.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 59th minute when they won a free kick on the left flank, just outside the penalty area. Mugisha Shedrack stepped up and converted to double King Ceasor’s advantage to 2-0.

Soroti pushed forward in search of a response but were let down by poor finishing, repeatedly sending their chances off target as the hosts struggled to find a way past the visitors’ defence.

King Ceasor’s task became more difficult in the 83rd minute when Barigye Willis was sent off after receiving a second booking, leaving the visitors to see out the closing stages with 10 men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Kasumba’s charges held firm to secure a clean sheet and a historic first victory in the Pepsi University Football League.

The competition continues on Sunday in Lira, where Lira University will host Gulu University.
