E.Africa University Games: Head Sports at MUBS Reveals Why Varsity Performs Better than Previous Edition
The East Africa University games, the 12th Edition climaxed on Wednesday with Ndejje University, the hosts taking the overall winners trophy.
Makerere University came in as the second and Makerere University Business School walking home with the bronze medal among the overall winners.
The Nakawa-based University surprised many with the performance it displayed compared to that of 2019 while in Dodoma.
MUBS finished third overall with 40 medals in total, and had 15 gold medals, six silver and 19 bronze medals out of the 75 participants they presented in the 12th edition.
The University Sports head and the chairperson of a women’s football club, She Corporate WFC, Mr. Kawere Richard revealed to this website why they did perform like that despite the fact that they took a small number compared to that they head in 2019 when they finished 7th.
“Our performance this time has greatly improved from the previous East Africa University games that took part in Dodoma in 2019, we were in number seven, you can see today we’re number three which demonstrates four places apart and this is accredited to the policy we have at the University of supporting sports and sports men in terms of education and also looking for best people to coach and coach the talent that we have.
“It’s a combination of management and the team on ground that identifies this talent, the input of students and students leadership that has helped us to finish 3rd.” Kawere Richard explained.
About the small number the University has presented in the games, 75 compared to over 120 they had in Dodoma, the University’s students guild, Bruno Kamoga attributed it to lack of money at the varsity.
“Before coming to leadership, sports was on our front page, believe me, whatever things done at the University starts with students leadership, true we brought limited number, only 75 athletes but this was because the money wasn’t available but as leaders, we talked to our fellow students that even if the number is small, we can go and compete for medals, we presented only nine teams but with quality and they didn’t let us down.” Said Bruno Kamoga, MUBS guild president.
Among the top three performers, it’s only MUBS that fielded a small number of participants.
