Covid Relief: Sports Journalist, Mugabi, Friends Put Smile On Cheeks of Over 50 Kids
After being humanly touched by the state of many kids in Kawempe surbubs and many of them were footballers, Gugudde TV and Voice of Bugerere Online sports Journalist, Mugabi Geofrey Junior initiated a campaign dubbed “Yamba Omuto” (Help the young one).
In this campaign, the sports Journalist was calling upon Ugandans of good heart especially those in sports sector to give a hand to these kids and their parents to get something to eat in this tough lockdown of 42 days.
Indeed some joined the cause and the project climaxed on Thursday, 22nd July 2021 and at least 50 kids, boys and girls benefited from the initiative.
These kids from Kawempe slums received maize floor, rice, beans and sanitary pads for girl child.
“I thank coach[Mukiibi Isma] for coming for our rescue, surely we have been in a tough situation, without food, so I thank you and this Journalist [Mugabi Geofrey] for thinking about us, may God bless you.” Annet Namubiru mother to Namirimu Benah who is a footballer in Dream Girls soccer Academy.
“As a parent, I saw it important for my kids to play football, because I know it can take them some where, and again it’s the football family that came to their rescue in this tough time, I am really happy for the items you gave to us, I thank you because you have moved us to somewhere, and I take this opportunity to ask for more help. ” Parent, Lukato Emmanuel Mukasa.
The campaign initiators revealed what tempted them to come out to give a hand to the kids and their parents.
“I found out that these girls are in bad state, as a Journalist, I am a lover of youth football and the kids in sports, so I felt touched when I saw these kids in bad state, so I had to initiate a campaign to help these kids and I thank those who have supported us in this project.” Mugabi Geofrey Junior, the project initiator told this website.
“This is not the end we are still helping the kids because many more are still there, need the help, we call upon you also to keep giving a hand” He added.
“ I thanks all people who worked with Mugabi Geofrey, as Dream Girls soccer Academy, most of our kids are coming from slum areas in families of poor parents, so they have been lacking but I really thank you for whatever you have given to us.” Head Coach, Dream Girls, Mukiibi Isma.
Mukiibi also said that the girls are still lacking because they have huge challenges who always need help.
This has been the first initiative made by a Journalist in this pandemic despite the tough times also sports Journalists go through.
