The 2023 edition of Corporate league has kicked off on Sunday at Kyadondo Rugby Club stadium and at least 70 out 85 companies took part in football activities.
This is the 21st edition of this league and the opening was graced by the National Council of Sports Board Chairman, Mr. Ambrose Tashobya who asked companies to continue investing in sports.
In this league, games are played every end of the month and the Corporate League, Chairperson Mrs Mutu Diana Akello asked companies not only to just come and play and then leave but also to come with people who can let the people around to know the brand of a certain company.
“I request companies to send people who can execute and let people know what the company is doing such that it can get the returns in investment, I am a marketer of Nile Breweries and my role here is to encourage people use my products, it the same other companies need to do. As Nile we are ready in give in support because we promised that and I also ask others to join us.” Chairperson in her words.
This year’s theme of the league, runs that “say no to indiscipline, say no to mercenaries” and to make that possible, Diana asserted that starting next month, every player should come with his or her NSSF number.
“Starting next month, have players with NSSF numbers, I believe each company’s employee pays NSSF and they do have numbers, we are doing this to avoid mercenaries, and this year’s theme is say no to indiscipline, say no to mercenaries.” She warned.
Centenary Bank are the Defending Champions and indeed they start well while beating URA by 1-0.
Meanwhile in Woodball Corporate league, held at MUBS in Nakawa, Ministry of Public service won the trophy in women category while Kisubi Corporate won the male category.
The individual winners were also awarded yesterday.
