‘Carry the MUBS Badge with Pride’ — Muhwezi as AUUS Team Is Flagged Off
MUBS Sends 125-Strong Contingent to UCU for AUUS Games, Muhwezi Urges Discipline Beyond Medals

Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has officially flagged off a contingent of 100 student-athletes and 25 officials to participate in the 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games, due to take place at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono from December 18 to 23, 2025.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the MUBS Main Campus in Nakawa and was presided over by the University Principal, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, alongside the Deputy Principal, Prof. Racheal Mindra, and other members of the university leadership.
Addressing the athletes, Prof. Muhwezi challenged them to uphold the values, discipline, and reputation of the MUBS badge, stressing that sports go beyond the pursuit of trophies.
“As leaders, we understand the value of sports, which is why it is part of who we are. Winning is important, but there is much more beyond winning,” Muhwezi said. “Aim high competitively, but also use this platform to network and build connections that will shape you into valuable citizens.”
The Principal further emphasized discipline as a non-negotiable virtue, reminding the athletes that they represent the institution both on and off the field.
“Discipline must be your first and last priority, always remembering that you carry the MUBS badge wherever you go,” he added.
Highlighting the growing importance of sports in a skills-driven world, Prof. Muhwezi noted that sport is no longer just recreation but a viable career path. “As the world shifts towards skills, sports is a skill that can earn you a living and enable you to compete on the biggest stages,” he remarked.
MUBS will compete in 12 disciplines at the Games, including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, tennis, woodball, scrabble, chess, and pool.
In the previous edition of the AUUS Games, MUBS finished ninth overall. As the Games tip off this Thursday in Mukono, the Nakawa-based institution will be seeking an improved showing as it joins universities from across the country in Uganda’s premier university sports festival.
