Buganda Maato Competition: Mawokota, Busiro Win Nakiwogo Regatta Challenge, Nagirinya Puts Up Amazing Show

The 2nd Mini Regatta competitions of the 2024 Buganda Royal Regatta series has been held at Nakiwogo in Entebbe where the participants competed in 500 and 1000 meters. 

Mawokota and Busiro have been the winners of the two different races held on Saturday before a big crowd at Nakiwogo.

This time round Allen Nagirinya from Buwekula was the only lady actively competed and she got an extra prize for thr spirit and determination she exhibited against the men.

In attendance was the chief guest Owek. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, the Speaker of Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko (Parliament), Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister. Owek. Robert Sserwanga, Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon.Micheal Mbwatekamwa, Hon Patrick Nsanja of Ntenjeru South, Omumyuka wa Sebwana Dr.Stephen Seruyange among other dignitaries. 

In 1000 meters Mawokota emerged winners, Buddu finished second while Buvuma came third. 

Busiro won the 500 meters competitions, Buddu was second and Mawokota third.

The chief guest,Owek. Luwaga Mugumbule was much impressed with the turn up of the fans who witnessed the health competition amongst the Masaza teams. 

“I thank those who have put effort into this sport, I thank the Minister, Eng. Ben. Missaga and other people who have seen this sport flourish, I have never expected what I have found here, people are many, adults and the young ones and as Buganda we love most of these kids to get involved in the activities of the kingdom. This has shown that the Royal regatta will be a big sport in Buganda.” Says the Chief Guest Owek. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule. 

The minister, also thanked the Counties that have competed on the day and asked many to join to see that the competition grows.

Eng. Ben. Missaga, the chairperson of the Royal Regatta Committee thanked the lady who put up a good show and he promised that the grand finale that will be held on 24th August at Busaabala will be one of its kind.

“Our main focus is to rebuild this sport in order for everyone to enjoy, this sport is not only for men, that why you see we have given a lady who has participated an extra fee in order to motivate other ladies to join. We have the next competition on 24th of August in Busaabala and expect everyone to come and witness the new ideas we have put in place.” Said the chairperson of the competitions, Eng. Ben. Missaga.

The grand finale will be held on 24 August in Busabala.
