Bika Tournament 2024: “Every registered Clan to Receive 1M” – Minister Reveals

The Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister, Owek. Robert Sserwanga Ssalongo revealed the the Buganda subjects that in the 50th edition of the Bika Tournament, each registered clan will receive one million shillings to help in preparation and logistics through the season. 

This is one of the new initiatives the new Minister has introduced in the sports department of the kingdom. It’s one of its kind in the history of Bika Tournament. 

To confirm this development, Owek. Robert Sserwanga was addressing the Bika (Clan) managers who gathered in Kooti ya Kisekwa- Bulange Mengo on Wednesday. 

“In some of the development we want to introduce to see that our tournament is at the level we all want it to be, we it important that we continue support the clans, it’s not because we have much but we know what you go through to make your teams honor the match day games, for the start, the kingdom shall be supporting every registered clan with one million shillings.” Owek. Robert Sserwanga confirmed. 

But the Minister asserted that this monies will be wired to clan accounts, so he urged them to have accounts where the money will go. He also revealed that it’s the start and in future, they expect to add more. 

The Minister also confirmed that all the last year winners received their prizes and they demand none from the kingdom. 

The minister commented about the dishonesty among the clan managers who always plot to use ineligible players, he asked them to be transparent because it’s the only that will make the tournament more vibrant and attract the bazukkulu to support their teams without hesitation. 

 “Transparency is the only thing that can develop our game, let’s straighten the list of our players, and let the well prepared team win the game, I announced the program on 5th January 2024, so don’t expect to win when you start preparing only in three days to kickoff.” Says Minister.

“Let’s not despise each other’s clan, in Buganda we believe that every clan is strong,but if you feel that you’re stronger than the other, prove it on the pitch.” He added. 

The tournament will throw off with the Netball actions on Saturday 20th, April, 2024 at St Lawrence University Kampala Campus. 

Butikko and Mmamba will play the opener and the climax of Netball tournament will be on 27th, April, the date that will be the opener of the football tournament. 

Ngeye are the reigning champions of Netball while Ngonge are the champions of Football.
