Bika Netball: Title Contenders, Nyonyi Nyange, Ngeye Storm Final As Butiko Receive Suspension

The 2023 Bika By’Abaganda Netball tournament reaches at the last four stage following the epic action honored on Saturday at St Lawrence University Ndeeba Campus – Kampala.

The day had round of sixteen and quarter final fixtures that were honored to determine the semifinalists of this year’s edition.

The defending champions, Ngeye found no serious hurdle to eliminate Kkobe at the round of sixteen, beating the ‘Bazzukulu ba Namwama’ 26 to 15 but the extras ordinary challenge for the Ngeye came at the quarter finals when they met the resilient Nkula, the youngest team in the tournament this season, most of her players were primary school going pupil but put great challenge, and Harriet Kabuye coached side, Ngeye had to beat them only by one.

Ngeye finally won the game 21-20 following the final whistle, they propelled to semifinal for the second consecutive time.

Before playing round of 16, Butiko who were supposed to feature against Ngo at this level found guilty of using ineligible player and they were banned out of this year’s edition. Then Ngo found another opponent in Nsenene. Ngo beat the latter 28-20 but also never escaped quarters, The Bazzukulu ba Mutesaasira were beaten by Mmamba Namakaka (Bazzukulu ba Gabunga) 32-19.

Nkima is another surprise clan at this level, they beat Omusu at round of sixteen before eliminating Lugave at quarters, the side won the game only by a difference of three goals (23-36).

Like the organizing committee revealed before they throw off of the tournament, at knockout stage, it’s when they started capturing all the relevant information (statistics) that will help them determine the best player and the top scorer of this year’s edition.

Nyonyi Nyange beat Ente 32-28 on quarter final but before eliminating the latter, Nyonyi had to beat Ffumbe 23-21 at round of sixteen.

At semifinal, Nkima will be playing against defending champions Ngeye while Mmamba Namakaka will take on Nyonyi Nyange at the date yet to be communicated.
