AUUS Inter University Games: As Usual, Ndejje Parades More Gold Medals as 19th Edition Climaxes
The 2023 Association of Uganda University Sports Inter University Games climaxed today, Thursday with Ndejje University taking the overall winners trophy to continue dominating the games.
For the seventh consecutive time, Ndejje University took the overall winners trophy after winning eight gold medals and three silver medals, beating the hosts, Uganda Christian University who secured six gold medals.
This is the first time since the Luweero based University started winning the overall trophies to present few teams in different sports disciplines.
Ndejje University never presented a team in handball women, volleyball Women, basketball women, Netball and football.
The deputy Vice Chancellor of Ndejje University, Dr. Fred Kakembo expressed his gratitude towards his boys and girls for great performance but as well he revealed to this website as to why they presented fewer teams compared to previous Edition and the secret they have as to why they have defended the position for the seventh time.
“What’s behind our success in sports always is; we always plan in time, our students balance the books and sports well, we give them constant support in terms of facilitation, and our trainers are quite good, they are devoted to the University and they are around whenever the students need them and we make sure that whatever is needed to support the games is available every time, with or without the major tournaments.” Dr. Fred Kakembo said.
“Yes, the number of teams were smaller because of the situation in the country, the economy is not doing well, it has affected many institutions but in the next tournaments we’re going to present more teams, but again we’re happy that even the few we brought, they managed to win us gold medals.” He added.
Uganda Christian University took the silver trophy for winning six gold medals, Makerere University became the third on the log of 23 Universities that featured in the 19th edition, they collected five gold medals.
Kyambogo University who collected four medals, finished fourth while the debutants, Victoria University finished fifth with three gold medals.
In only female category, Uganda Christian University were the overall winners while Ndejje University were the overall winners in the men category.
Soroti University, Kumi University, Mountain of the Moon and Kabale University are among the Universities that did not win any medal in the 19th edition.
The 20th edition will be hosted in 2025 but the host University will be communicated later according to AUUS.
