Busolo fires Kampala University to winning start as Makerere lay down early marker at AUUS Game

Kampala University forward Busolo Paul and giants Makerere University took centre stage as the AUUS Games 2025 officially kicked off on Friday morning at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, with four football fixtures spread across three venues.
Busolo set the tone for Kampala University’s campaign with a calm 5th-minute penalty as the Ggaba-based side edged ISBAT University 2–1 at Namilyango College Pitch Two. The early breakthrough settled KU nerves in what has already been dubbed the group of death.
Nsubuga Gideon added a second in the 29th minute to hand Kampala University a commanding lead before Jemba Abudshakur pulled one back for ISBAT in the 56th minute. The victory gives KU an early advantage in Group C, which also features hosts Uganda Christian University, Bugema University and St Lawrence University.
While Busolo inspired Kampala University, it was Makerere University who sent the strongest warning to the rest of the field. The Enzymes dismantled newcomers Soroti University 3–0, with all goals coming in the first half. Ivan Ocheng was the standout performer, netting a brace, while Emmanuel Okwong capped a dominant display with a spectacular finish to underline Makerere’s title credentials.
At the UCU main pitch, returning side St Lawrence University, back at the Games for the first time since 2017, claimed a statement 1–0 win over 2023 losing finalists Bugema University. Lukyamuzi Paul struck the decisive goal in the 40th minute to hand St Lawrence a memorable comeback victory.
Meanwhile at Mukono Bishop SS playground, Bishop Stuart University made light work of Lira University, securing a 2–0 win courtesy of a quickfire brace from Lule Yusuf, who scored in the 4th and 9th minutes of the first half.
Action continues this afternoon with Uganda Martyrs University facing Kyambogo University at Mukono Bishop SS, IUIU taking on Bishop Stuart University at Namilyango College, Bugema University returning against ISBAT University, and Nkumba University opening their campaign versus Soroti University.
