Africa Nation’s Championship: History Making Volleyball Lady Cranes off to Quarters

The Uganda Volleyball national women’s team, Volleyball Lady Cranes made to the quarter finals of the Africa Nation’s Championship underway in Younde Cameroon.

To reach this milestone in the history of the game, the Lady Cranes beat Burkina Faso three set straight in their last group B game played on Sunday afternoon. 

Returning to winning ways, the side that went as underdogs in the championship, lost two consecutive games against the Giants in the game and our neighbors, Kenya and Rwanda. 

From the first whistle, Uganda showed that thet are more in the need of the win over the West African side, and they (Lady Cranes) took the first set with advantage of 11 points, winning first set 25-14 before coming back more stronger in second set, taking it with 25-12 points.

The West African tried to coming back at least to take the third set but it became very difficult for them to penetrate Uganda’s resistance and the set ended 25-18 in favor of Lakony Tonny Peter ‘s charges and advanced to quarter final for the first time in history. 

Thi win means that Uganda is in better position to finish above their set record of finishing 9th in 2009.

Uganda will be facing off the North African Giants Egypt at quarters.
