To the fact that Football is more than just a fun, popular, international sport. It plays a role in international development by funding global education, effecting positive social change, and producing renewable energy, Kayunga Community Club has opted to use the sport in connecting People in the Community by organizing tournaments.

On Sunday 15th, August 2021, the Club (Kayunga Community Club) had their final played at Bishop Brown Playground, Kayunga, and winners were awarded.

In an entertaining final where all teams showed fighting spirit, Kayunga Community Club Football Team defeated Kimeeza Football Club in a contest which needed penalty shots to decide the champion of Kayunga Town Council.

In normal time play the game ended in a barren draw (0-0) and Kimeeza Football Club lost by 4-3 in penalty shots.

“Our target was to be crowned champions of the tournament but we lost and that is Football. It acted as a wake-up call to my boys and the management ahead of the 2021/22 Football season after taking some time without any serious competition”.Said Andam Siraje, the head coach of Kimeeza Football Club.

“There was a lot of competition and challenges so my Boys were able to battle and compete with experienced and exposed players from upper leagues who featuring for our opponents”. Added Siraje.

“Like any champion, my team is so excited to be crowned the champions of the Kayunga connect football tournament”. Stated Joseph Ssempala, the coach Kayunga Community Club Football team.

“We faced stiff competition from our opponents since day one of the tournament but we were always ready to handle whatever tough the situation could turn”. Added Ssempala

“We wanted to create a competitive environment such that our People in the community can challenge one another, the tournament was a success because we as the hosts, achieved our target”. Said Ismail Hizir Ssonko the Chairman Organizing Committee

“We are thinking of spreading the wings of organizing such free and fair tournaments as we use soccer to spread the gospel of connecting our Community, Kayunga”. Added Ssonko

“We are using Football because it brings people of different ideology, political parties and it can be used as a joining tool across all people from Kayunga”. Said Bwogi Josep Mpagi the President Kayunga Community Club

“We want to see that Talents are nurtured and developed from our Community (Kayunga) and see that they (Talents) can excel”.

Semi-Finals

Kayunga Community Club Football Team needed penalty shots to defeat Kimeeza Young Football Club by 3-1 after normal time ending in a goalless draw.

Meanwhile, Kimeeza Football Club defeated Kayunga Industrial Area Football Club by a 2-0 scoreline.

Format of Play

Four (4) teams registered for the inaugural tournament. All teams first played point robin before draws were made for the semi-finals.

One-legged match was considered in the semi-finals and the two winners qualified for the finals
