2023/24 SUPL: Mbarara City, UPDFC FC Share Points
On Monday evening, only one game of match day ten of Startimes Uganda Premier League was played and the hosts UPDF came from a goal down to hold Mbarara City in a 1-all draw.
In a game played at Bombo Barracks Playground, Henry Kitegenyi’s second half goal was cancelled by Robert Esenu’s brilliant free kick to secure a point for the solider boys.
A very boring first half it was as both teams went for safety first and it was only Mbarara City that tried to create chances but failed to find the back of the net.
It was in the second half in the 50th minute when the visitors took the lead through goal poacher Henry Kitegenyi.
With a beautiful counter attack, Sadat Nsubuga played a wonderful through pass which found Kitegenyi who made a good run and put the ball past goalkeeper Mabuya to find the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, the hosts got the equalized through Robert Esenu. The hosts were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box and Esenu brilliantly curled the ball to the far right top of the corner to level the matters.
In the 64th minute, UPDF almost took the lead but Rashid Faridi’s effort went few inches close to the bottom corner of the goal.
With 2 minutes to the final whistle, Mbarara City nearly restored the lead through Akandwanaho but goalkeeper Mabuya made two double saves. Immediately after surviving, UPDF also almost scored the winning goal but goalkeeper Nsamba Hakim saved Mbarara City.
At the final whistle, it was all square as two teams shared points. UPDF FC at least escaped a loss after losing two previous league games.
Mbarara City is now in 10th position with three points above the relegation zone while UPDF FC sits in the relegation zone with 9 points.
Match day eleven continues on Tuesday with two games as poor KCCA FC hosts in-form Soltilo Bright Stars while Kitara FC welcomes Express FC in Masindi.
