Youth Football: Taquwa Dethrones Kampala Galaxy, To Represent Nakawa subregion in Regional Qualifiers

The Uganda Youth Football Association, Nakawa subregion qualifying tournament has successfully climaxed on Sunday at Omega Soccer Academy playground – Mbalwa. 

The Kireku- Bweyogerere based club, Taquwa Soccer Academy beat all the odds down and beat Nakawa subregion, Kampala region and National championship defending champions Kampala Galaxy Soccer Academy 1-0 to be crowned the new champions.

Ouma Salvan aka Kablaza scored the only goal that won Taquwa and epic final played on Sunday. 

The Academy’s head coach, Wamusi Bernard explained his excitement and readiness represent the subregion.

“This has been our second edition in UYFA tournament,I feel excited to be the champions this year.” Said Wamusi Bernard, head coach Taquwa Soccer Academy.

“Before it wasn’t easy, Last year we participated in U13, we didn’t win anything, this very year we participated in U10 and U13 but we never won anything, we’re very lucky today and I really feel so happy as a coach and it has been a great achievement to these young lads and I hope as Taquwa we shall give a good representation at the regional level.” He added. 

Taquwa Soccer Academy is a community based Academy that has over 100 kids in different age categories, the U10, 13,15 and 17. According to Wamusi, the academy started two years back but since it has kids from humble families, they need more support especially with the game equipments. 

The Nakawa subregion coordinator Jessy Lukoki, commented at the tournament that had six academies participating.

“Today we marked the climax of U15 Nakawa subregion tournament qualifiers and we have crowned Taquwa Soccer Academy as champions. We were supposed to have the U13 girls competition but unfortunately the academies never have the girls teams however we have continued with the tournament and went on successfully, the teams complied with the arrangement and rules.” Said UYFA Nakawa subregion coordinator, Jessy Lukoki 

The Academies that participated include; Taquwa Soccer Academy (champions), Omega Soccer Academy (hosts), Kampala Galaxy Soccer Academy, Soccer for Life Foundation one and Two, Bazanye Soccer Foundation. 

The Kampala region champions shall be hosted in January.
