Women Football: We are preparing these girls for Professional football- St Noa Girls Tactician
St Noa Girls school-Zana are the reigning champions of the just concluded Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association games in girls football, they beat Kawempe Muslim SS on final to lift the title.
The games were held in Hulu last month (April) 2022.
For the past five to seven years, this Zana based side has been growing organically as well as becoming a great threat to women football historical schools, and winning the 2022 USSSA games while beating the record holder, Kawempe Muslim was a serious indicator that the Entebbe Road based school came in the race to lose nothing.
Besides school football, St Noa decided to join FUFA organized competitions and this year they registered for Buganda Women’s league.
On Wednesday the side climaxed the first round with a 10-0 victory at home against Kiringente. Thanks to goals from promising midfielder Kigongo Auki who scored a brace in both halves, pacey winger Silvia Kabene had hat-trick on the day,Aketouuanga Giovannah Sunday also scored three, Ayo Miriam 1 and an own goal.
The result meant that St Noa remained unbeaten in six games, scored 32 goals more than any club in the league, moved to 16 points.
Why St Noa Joined FUFA organized competitions?
Though they had a good competing school team and most of the clubs in women football leagues are school based, St Noa never wanted to rush before proper ground work as their head coach, James Mukubya narrates.
“We have been in a hide, been preparing something good and I think, it’s now the right time to reveal it to public.” The former Uganda Cranes defender noted.
“We are preparing these girls for professional football, we are building them to be of importance to the nation and football, yes we have good players, but you don’t see them at any national team, we think when the right time comes you will see them.”
” Then about the ambitions of the club, we are aiming at top flight football, but we don’t force it, only results will take us there. So we are playing football that we believe is good for the girls and the fans. ” He explained.
St Noa has produced a number of players who are now at the national scene, the likes of Aisha Nantongo now at Kawempe Muslim, Asia Nakibuuka, Hadija Nalongo now at UCU, Sandra Kisakye, Harriet Muwugumya.
