Women Football: Makerere University Starts Serious Training, Tactician Targets Super League Stay

The newly promoted FUFA Women Super League side, Makerere University Women Football Club started serious training early this week as they are getting ready for a tricky 2020/21 season.

Not like in previous seasons, this year the league will be played in a tournament format and the actions will not last for more than a month. The League will be held on one ground, that is FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. 

The Campus girls started serious training at their home ground at Makerere University as they are getting ready for the league that kicks off on 19th April 2021.

The Club’s tactician, Ndawula Fred in an interview with this website, says that any coach or team would like to win the title of any tournament but in this case, Makerere will first mind about maintaining their position in Super League where they are very fresh.

“Any coach or team would like to win any title before them but this season’s league because of its format, safety first then winning will come later.” Said Coach Fred.

“This is a tournament, don’t expect players to display the performance they would give us if it was normal league, so the group we are in is not scaring and we are going to put a strong challenge.”

According to Coach Fred, Makerere is yet to recruit more players into the squad but they are in advanced talks with a number of players and soon they will be revealing to us.

Makerere University pitted in group one with Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, Kawempe Muslim Ladies, Kampala Queens and Tooro Queens.

The opening match on Monday 19, April 2021 will be between Makerere University and Uganda Martyrs at 2PM.

The winner of this tournament, which will climaxes on 5, May 2021, will represent Uganda in the inaugural CAF Women Champions League.
