Kakembo Memorial Cup Climaxes on Sunday, Mega Prizes In Place For Winners
Mukono: The Inaugural tournament put in place in remembrance of Seeta United Ex-Player who died last year, Kakembo Edward climaxes on Sunday 28, March 2021 at Paul Mukasa Sports Ground- Bajjo Mukono.
The tournament was named Kakembo Edward Memorial Cup and it will be held annually, the inaugural editon has attracted 19 Clubs from Greater Mukono.
Gaddafi FC (from Seeta) and Mpoma FC, a fourth division club are the side to battle for the title on Sunday. The former to reach on final beat Katale 3-2 via spot kicks after an entertaining two all draw in open play while Misindye Mpoma FC eliminated Bukerere FC on semifinal by 5-4 in penalties following a goalless draw.
The aspiring Chairman, Mukono District Football Association in the forthcoming FUFA Elections, Mahadi Gaddafi Kivumbi revealed why he and his associates decided to organize the Kakembo Memorial Cup.
“Kakembo was a great player, played for Kirinya Jinja, Soana FC and Seeta United, by the time he died in November last year, he was a coach of Seeta Ex-Players, and he was s great friend of ours so we saw it important to remember him in this way.” Kivumbi told this website.
“At least 19 teams participated, six of those feature in fourth division, so this tournament also helped clubs to prepare for new season and keeping their players fit.
You know we want to re-brand Mukono football, because we are a hub of football talents in Uganda, and once we get into administration, you will see a great change, actually we have people who are willing to finance activities in Mukono but only need to deal with proper adminstration, which we currently lack.” He added.
The tournament winner will walk away with gold medals, trophy, certificate and a bull while a goat will go to the runnersup.
