“I am the Best Person for Speakership- Kadaga Blow own Trumpet

The race for speakership has taken a Centre stage as elections draw closure.

The Rt. Hon speaker of parliament has spoken out on how she has got misunderstandings with her own party on many occasions and believes she is still the right person for that position even in the 11th parliament.

Kadaga made these remarks on Thursday while officiating at the third conference of women in politics which was held at Protea Hotel in Kampala.

“Sometimes I get trouble with my party because they want me to stifle opposition MPs but because I know I am the speaker of all people, I stand and say no to taking sides.” She said.

The Woman MP of Kamuli District, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, says that she is the best person for the speakership of the parliament thus she calls for joint effort to ensure representation of women in leadership.

“I urged all women to put in more time in our mission. As you see the journey is still very long so we must work tirelessly. But what’s saddening is that some women try so much to put fellow women down” Kadaga speaking to Press.

“I have heard some women say that I should leave the speakership position to a male but remember out of 29 top leadership positions in Uganda, only one is occupied by a woman” Kadaga revealed.

Kadaga went ahead to deny accusations of her being tribalistic.

“It is surely not true that I am promoting tribalism. I have created opportunities for all legislators irrespective of their tribes and political parties” she noted.

Kadaga is competing with her deputy Jacob Oulanyah on speakership position and their elections are slated for May 2021.

On talking about Covid 19 effects, Kadaga said that during the lockdown, families broke up, businesses collapsed but most women remained looking after their families and that is a reason enough to show that women can stand firm in all situations which explains why they need the top most positions in the government.
