USSSA Inaugural Capacity Building Climaxes, Over 1000 Benefit from the Initiative
The Inaugural Capacity Building Workshop organized by Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), climaxed with over 1000 games teachers, administrators and students benefiting from the Initiative.
The capacity building started on 10th December with USSSA EXCO members workshop of management and administration workshop training at Frontpage Hotel in Zana Entebbe road.
For starters, the Inaugural residential training took part in two regions, that’s Kampala (Kibuli Secondary School), Mbarara (western Uganda) at Mbarara High School, Lira (Northern Uganda) at Dr. Obote College Boroboro and in Bukedea at Amus College.
The training has been in six areas; that’s football coaching, refereeing, Netball coaching and umpiring, Handball coaching, Basketball coaching, Athletics coaching, volleyball and media training.
Being the main hosting venue, Kampala workshop climaxed on Friday at Kibuli Secondary School where the USSSA president, Mr. Justus Mugisha encouraged the participants to put in practice of what they have studied and to upgrade whenever the association organize such workshops.
“I am satisfied with the program, I have interacted with the participants and they are all very happy with what they have gained from here, what I can assure you, we are going to have another set of training in January and then every year we shall be running this program, we want at the end of the day to have every game teachers to be teachers. I also encourage them to practice what they have studied and we believe at the end, we shall have changed the landscape of sports in the country.” Said USSSA president.
Games’ teacher at Jinja SS, Nalubega Dianah revealed that she has never been close at volleyball training and coaching but after the workshop, she gained love for the game and she is going to coach because she has gained the basics.
“I have learnt a lot, I have been loving volleyball, I have been there watching but had no much interest in coaching it, but now I have gained the basics, now I feel I have enough knowledge to coach a child from scratches and get the best product of him or her and I am going back to practice.” Excited Dianah told this website.
John Wycliffe Musinguzi took the media class and he has also revealed her experience.
“The course has added on the experience I have been having, I learnt a lot, I have learnt the dos and donts of media officer, I have interacted with the seniors in journalism industry and I am going to use this knowledge to see that I achieve my target of being a sports journalist.”
Games master at Kibuli Secondary School, Rashid the hosting school asserted that it has been long over due, the association would have started the program long time ago because they learnt a lot from what the coaches have been going through but now they know how they can manage the sport and help the coaches to achieve their targets.
