USSSA Ball Games I: Draws for Basketball, Girls’ Football Held, Defending Champions in Simple Group
The draws for basketball and girls football of 2022 Edition of Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association ball games one held on Saturday afternoon at the Association’s head office at Old Kampala.
Not like previous edition where the participating teams were 32, this time round, 56 schools are expected to take part in girls’ football but today, 51 were available for draws and the remaining five will come as late comers since they were lacking some requirements at the draw time.
Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, the Association’s publicity Secretary was in place to conduct the draws and he revealed why, the number of teams increased from the usual 32.
“Today we have conducted the draws for girls football and basketball for girls and boys, the reason as to why we did it today is for the teams to prepare well and to go to Gulu when they know their opponents.” Kiyingi said before adding. ” Yes the number of teams increased from the 32 we had last time, this is because we are not with our sponsor this season, it’s the team to finance themselves, so as a committee we decided to increase on the number.”
Previously, it was fresh dairy that was financing the balls games apart from football boys, but due to COVID-19, the decided to have a breathing space and according to USSSA, the sponsor will return in 2023.
Wilber Shaka, the Wakiso Hill SS director was among the members in attendance, speaking to this website, the director revealed that according to the team he assembled this season, he gave the technical team a target to finish among the top three.
“We are in a fair group, I believe we can get out of it, this season I gave a target to my technical team, to finish in the top three positions, because we want to represent Uganda in East Africa.” Football Investor, Wilber Shaka told this website.
On the same day, the draws for basketball Boys and girls were held, each gender had 30 schools.
The other games like hockey, Woodball, their draws will be held at the hosting venue which is Sacred Heart in Gulu.
