USSSA Ball Games 2026: Namagabi SS Begin Volleyball Campaign in Style as Championship Serves Off in Gulu

Namagabi Secondary School made an emphatic start to their 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II boys’ volleyball campaign with a straight-sets victory over Entebbe Secondary School as competition officially got underway in Gulu City.
Playing on the opening day of the championship being jointly hosted by Sacred Heart Secondary School and Gulu High School, Namagabi produced a composed display to seal a 2-0 win and collect maximum points in their quest for a place in the knockout stages.
Elsewhere in the boys’ competition, Kibuli Secondary School recovered from losing the opening set to defeat Namilyango College 2-1 in one of the day’s most entertaining encounters.
Bukedea Comprehensive also opened with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kajjansi Progressive, while Kinawa High School defeated St. Henry’s College Kitovu by the same scoreline.
Other winning teams included Namugongo SS, Seroma Christian, Ntare School, Biguli SS, St. Kagwa Bushenyi, Mbogo Mixed, St. Peter’s College Tororo, Jinja SS, St. Jerome Ndama, Our Lady of Africa Mukono, Iganga High School, Standard High School Zzana, Kasenyi, Mbarara High School, ALL HIM, Amus College and Kitabi Seminary, all registering victories in their respective opening fixtures.
In the girls’ category, Immaculate Heart claimed one of the biggest wins of the day after fighting from a set down to defeat Kashaka Girls 2-1 in a thrilling contest. Buremba Secondary School also battled to a 2-1 victory over ALL HIM, while Bukedea Comprehensive comfortably overcame St. Katherine 2-0 and Kinawa High School defeated Jinja Secondary School in straight sets.
Nabisunsa Girls, Tororo Girls, Kyebambe, Ubuntu Hill, Bunya Secondary School, St. Elizabeth and Ruborogota were among the other schools that secured opening day victories.
The championship was officially declared open later in the day by the President of the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU), Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera, who commended schools for prioritising co-curricular activities as a key pillar in the holistic development of learners.
USSSA President Justus Mugisha, who also attended the ceremony, credited Uganda’s strong school sports structures for the country’s continued dominance at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, where Uganda has maintained its supremacy in recent years.
