UPL: SC Villa With an Uphill Task to Unlock High Flying NEC

The 16-time league champions SC Villa will host newcomers NEC FC on Friday evening at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

NEC FC have started their maiden Uganda Premier League campaign with two wins, the newbies defeated Mbarara City 1-0 in their opening game before they edged Busoga United 5-0 to go on top of the table.

SC Villa have only collected one point in possible 6. They lost 2-1 to Kitara in the first game and shared spoils with Maroons FC in a 1-all draw in their second game.

Coach Dusan Stojanovic is under pressure and looking for the first win. With the home advantage, his side will have all the odds to overcome NEC FC however, the newcomers will also be looking to win more games to extend their 100% winning rate.

In the first game, striker Charles Lwanga scored the only goal for SC Villa when they lost 1-2 to Kitara FC, and he’s out due to injury, leaving responsibility to other forwards like Ivan Bogere and Rogers Kiwanuka who have been off form.

Captain Marvin Kavuma netted a brace in the previous game and he’s expected to hunt goals for the visitors.

New signing striker Cromwell Rwothomio is also expected to make his debut for NEC FC today. The former URA FC and Vipers goal poacher, failed to get playing time at Vipers but he’s one of the top strikers in league.

The Jogoos are 12th on the table and a win will take them level on points with 6th and 7th Maroons FC and Express FC respectively.

For NEC FC, they’ll need to win the game to keep them on the top of the table and to keep their excellent start this season.
