UPDF Pilot Dies After Chopper Crush At Entebbe
In the afternoon of Thursday, 11, February, 2021, Uganda People’s Defence Force trainees’ chopper crushed at Entebbe near Spenah Beach.
According to communication from UPDF spokesperson, Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, the jet ranger that crushed, had two cadet trainees and they were on mutual training flight.
“Today afternoon at about 2:15pm a jet ranger piloted by two cadet trainees on a mutual training flight came down immediately after take off near Lido beach. The two were rushed to hospital to ascertain their health. Our aviation team is on ground to investigate the mishap.”
However, after three hours, the same Byekwaso returned on her twitter handle and announced the death of Captain Caroline Busingye who was in the crushed plane. Captain died from Kisubi hospital where she was rushed to after the crush.
“It is with sadness that we announce the passing on of Capt Caroline Busingye after she was involved in a plane crush today Afternoon in Entebbe. We Commiserate with the family of the late and the UPDF Airforce fraternity during this very difficult moment.” Brig. Flavia Byekwaso wrote on her twitter.
The Chopper that crushed, was AF317.
Busingye became the second female UPDF pilot to die in a chopper crush in space of one year. Last year it was Maj. Naomi Karungi died in a plane crush that happened in Butambala district.
