Defending champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School made a powerful statement at the start of their UMEA Solidarity Games 2026 campaign, cruising to a convincing 3-0 victory over Kakungulu Memorial SS in the girls’ football competition.

Playing at Mbale SS playground on Saturday, Kawempe Muslim SS wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring all three goals in a clinical first-half display. Star forward Belinda Hope Nabawanuka led the charge with a well-taken brace, before Proscovia Namataka added the third to seal a comfortable win for the reigning champions.

The Kampala-based side, who lifted the 2025 title in Kayunga at Namagabi SS, look determined to defend their crown and have started their campaign with clear intent.

Attention now turns to their final Group A fixture against Masaka SS, a decisive clash that will determine the group leaders in a pool consisting of three teams.

In other action, hosts Nkoma SS secured their place in the semifinals after edging Kawempe Muslim SS B 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter hosted at Mbale City Stadium. The result confirmed Nkoma’s progression, while Kawempe’s second team now faces a must-win situation.

Kawempe Muslim SS B, who had earlier registered a 3-0 victory over Kinaawa High School in their opening match, will take on Kigumba in their final group game, with a semifinal spot hanging in the balance.

With the competition heating up, Kawempe Muslim SS’s main team has already sent a strong warning to their rivals as they continue their quest to retain the UMEA Solidarity Games title.
