Uganda Govt Succumbs To Pressure, Releases Nigerian Artiste

The Uganda government through Chief magistrate court in Makindye from immediate effect released Nigerian artistes and withdraws all charges against them.

On Monday, the Chief magistrate court in Makindye, charged the Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia, his fellow musician, Temilade Openyi, Muyiwa Awoniyi (Temilade’s manager) and other other six accusing them for holding a music concert at Dungu Resort- Munyonyo on Saturday contrary to President’s directives put in place to curb COVID-19 pandemic.

The the three in particular, Omah Didia, Awoniyi and Temilade were remanded to Kitalya Prison yesterday but before the closure of Business today, the same Chief magistrate Court wrote a release   order, to Kitalya prison to set the prisoners free from immediate effect.

“This charges against the accused Stanley Omah Didia and Muyiwa Awoniyi have been withdrawn against them.” The Order release sheet signed on Tuesday 15th December 2020 by Magistrate Grade one judge, Okumu Jude Muwone read in parts.

“This is to direct you to release Muyiwa Awoniyi and Stanley Omah Didia the said accused person from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges.” It continues.

Before the release order was written to Kitalya prison, many Ugandans Musicians, including the National Unity Platform Party President and flag bearer Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi wine asked for the immediate release of Omah and others because it’s the government and Police who gave them working permits to operate in Uganda.

Entertainment industry was put to hold since Uganda went in first lockdown in March 2020.
