Standard Chartered Cup Draws Held, Winning team to Visit Anfield

The draws for the 7th edition of the Standard Chartered Bank Cup has been held on Wednesday 4, September,2024 at the Bank’s head office in Kampala. 

The 2024 edition has attracted 41 corporate company teams that were pitted in eight groups of five teams and one went with six teams.

The tournament will take place on September 7, 2024, at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

And the 41 teams, each will be vying for the prestigious chance to travel to the UK to visit Anfield the stadium of Liverpool football club.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, progressing through to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and ultimately, the final match. 

The defending champions, Steel and Tube Industries Limited were pitted in group E and they hope to defend the trophy and visit Liverpool again.

For starters, the Standard Chartered Cup is an international 5-a-side football tournament, deeply connected to Standard Chartered Bank’s sponsorship of Liverpool FC. 

Since its inception in 2015, the tournament has grown in popularity, becoming a cornerstone for engaging clients, Liverpool FC fans, and the broader football community in Uganda. The event was paused after the 2019 edition due to the global pandemic but has returned in full force, promising a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.

Standard Chartered Bank’s partnership with Liverpool FC serves as the bedrock of this tournament, offering a platform not only to reward and motivate fans but also to strengthen the local support for the iconic football club.

The tournament is a unique blend of sport, fun, and interactive engagement, promising a memorable experience for all participants. 

According to the event organizers, Edgers Youth Programme, they expect the one day tournament to start as early as 7am. 

The registration of players to take part in the tournament that requires every team not to register more than seven players, it’s deadline is lunchtime on Friday.
