Stanbic Uganda Cup: Bugerere United edges Katale to Advance to Round Two
Bugerere United FC playing in names of Uganda Sports Arena FC beat Katale FC 1-0 at Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground on Wednesday 20th, December 2023 to book their place in round two of Stanbic Uganda Cup 50th editions Preliminary Round.
Team captain, Mark Ssali, scored the lone goal in the 70th minute to guide Bugerere United on their way to Round 2 of the 50th edition of Stanbic Uganda Cup
Issa Emmanuel Mugoya had an opportunity to put the “United For Purpose” in the first half when he dribbled past defence line, but his shot hit the crossbar.
Nasri Kafeero strike was missed by inches away from the goal with a keeper to beat 10 minutes unto second half.
The visitors, Katale Football Club, had their opportunity to go upfront after being awarded a penalty, but it went wide five minutes past an hour mark (65).
Five minutes later (70), skipper Mark Ssali tapped in Ikooza Derrick Cross to earn Bugerere United their maiden win and first goal at home.
In their recent matches, Bugerere United FC had played Entebbe Pride Football Club and Kakiri Town Council FC in the 2023/24 Buganda Regional League Katonga Group ending in 0-1 defeat and 0-0 draw respectively.
The win means Bugerere United advances to refund 2 of the preliminary rounds and will take on Sparks Soccer Club Kirondo at Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground on Saturday 6th, January 2024.
Sparks Soccer Club also registered a heard fought win over Expendables Football Club Academy by 1-0 at their home venue in Kirondo.
Other Kayunga side, Synergy/Kayunga Town Council thrashed Kisoga United Football Club by 5-1 also to advance to round 2 and will battle Nantabulirwa One SC at Ndeeba Kayunga.
Bugerere United Football Club will return in action this Saturday, 23rd December 2023 in the Buganda Regional League, Katonga Group against Entebbe FC at Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground.
