Stanbic Ug Cup: Cranes Preparation For WCQ Saves FUFA From Embarrassment, Postpones Semifinal Fixtures

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) early this month held the 2020/2021 Stanbic Uganda Cup draws for the semifinal encounters 

And BUL FC was meant to battle for final slot against Express FC FC while Vipers Sports Club had to play against Police FC.

For starters, the semifinal fixtures were slated to be held between 19th to 30th August 2021 but the FA has postponed them until further notice.

The FUFA Competition’s Director Aisha Nalule, asserted that the fixtures can not be honored because Express FC and Vipers SC have more than three players, each, on the Uganda Cranes team that is currently in camp getting ready for FIFA World Cup Qualifier fixtures.

“The National Team preparations for Kenya vs Uganda and Uganda vs Mali are underway. Vipers and Express have more than 3 players in the training camp. Consequently the Stanbic Uganda Cup matches scheduled to take place between 19th and 30th August have been postponed until further notice.” Nalule revealed.

The Vipers’ players on national dusty; Paul Willa, Aziizi Kayondo, Halid Lwaliwa, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Ibrahim Orit and Milton Kariisa.

Then Express has captain Enoch Walusimbi, Joel Mutakubwa, Murushid Juuko, Martin Kizza and Muzamiru Mutyaba.

The National team Preparations came as a blessing in disguise, it has saved the FA from embarrassment, barely two weeks back, the 2019 Uganda Premier League Champions, Vipers SC threatened not to honor their fixture if FUFA doesn’t change the dates.

The Venoms claimed that they were not in position to assemble a squad capable of competing as some of their players were still on leave.

For BUL, they requested FUFA to allow them use new players after letting go of up to 15 from the just concluded Uganda Premier League season.

This year’s edition started at the round of 32 with only Uganda Premier League and FUFA Big League teams taking part in the competition.

With only 32 teams participating, the Uganda Cup is being played on home and away basis up to the final which will be played at a neutral venue.
