St Mark Kayunga Make Strong Statement in Buganda Schools Football Tournament, Off to Knockout Stage
Debutants St Mark High School Kayunga Shine at Buganda Schools Football Tournament

Debutants St Mark High School Kayunga produced an impressive performance to top Group H at the ongoing Buganda Secondary Schools Boys Football Championship hosted at Kawanda SS.
St Mark finished top of the group with seven points, winning two of their matches on day two to secure qualification to the knockout stage of the competition.
The Kayunga-based side began their campaign with a 0-0 stalemate against defending champions Kawempe Muslim SS on Wednesday before returning strongly on the second day. They defeated St Michael International School 3-1 thanks to goals from Ivan Kiganda, Dissan Mwebe and Jimmy Kyagulanyi, while Arthur Murungi scored the consolation for St Michael.
St Mark then sealed top spot in the group with a 2-0 victory over Miriam SS Busabala, completing a remarkable group stage performance in their maiden appearance at the Buganda schools tournament.
Meanwhile, Wampeewo Ntake Secondary School also registered an important 3-1 win over St John’s High School Kazo. St John’s took the lead through Nasser Kalungi, but Wampeewo Ntake turned the game around with goals from George Kigozi and Ashiraf Muwonge, while Sulaiman Mugerwa scored an unfortunate own goal.
Earlier in the competition, St John’s High School Kazo had shown their attacking strength when Nasser Kalungi and Miiro Wahab each scored a brace to guide their side to a 4-2 victory over Universal High School Kisaasi. Universal’s goals were netted by Ezra Katusabe and Rajab Muniiru.
Elsewhere, St Andrew Kaggwa Gombe High School defeated Viena High School 2-0, with Aaron Sselumu scoring both goals in the match.
Kawempe Royal College Bulaga also secured a 2-0 victory over Skyline Progressive SS courtesy of goals from Beckham Omara and Sharif Ssebagala.
In another fixture, High Way SS Kiganda overcame African Muslim School 2-0, with David Isabirye and Denis Mpoza finding the back of the net.
With the group stages producing exciting results, teams that have progressed are now preparing for the knockout rounds as the competition continues at Kawanda SS, the main host of this year’s Buganda Schools Sports football tournament.
St Mark High School Kayunga will now wait to learn their opponents in the knockout stage as they aim to extend their impressive debut run in the competition.
