School Sports: Homeland High School Kasana Gears Up Preparation ahead of USSSA Qualifiers
As 2024 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association qualifiers near kick off, Kasana based side, Homeland High School has intensified training ahead of the long awaited for, the 2024 calendar.
On Friday, 16th February 2024, Homeland travelled to Wobulenzi and had their first trial matches against Agape Secondary School Wobulenzi in football and netball.
Challenge games started with netball before spectators shifted to the football pitch later on the day.
On the netball court, Homeland High School guided by Peter Kinene were victors well as Agape Secondary School defeated their counter parts by 4-0
According to Sserunjogi Henry Transformation, who is the team leader of Homeland Schools Kasana.
“First of all, it was a good opportunity that we had test matches in Netball and Football, I have enjoyed so much to see young talents because they play without violence.”
“Seeing talents from Luweero being given the opportunity to play is a plus for me. Also, it challenges me when i see these youths play, and i always think about what to do to add value to our country”.
“Our target as Homeland Schools Kasana is to see that our teams qualify to National because we have been dominated by teams outside the Luweero Town Council”.
Richard Ssenyonga, the director Agape Secondary School and New Eden Primary School, said it is always good to help these talents grow to the next level.
“As an enthusiastic sports person, I always feel good when I see these talents grow and advance to next level that is why I always give out bursaries to best Sports persons.” Said, Richard Ssenyonga, Director Agape Secondary School Wobulenzi.
Last year, Agape was ejected on round of sixteen (16) in the Luweero District Football Competitions
Following the 2024 annual general meeting held on Friday, the 16th, February at St Kizito Secondary School Katikamu, the Luweero Secondary Schools Sports Association leaders released 2024 sports calendar, and the long awaited for, the dates for the kick off are set to be Wednesday 28th this month and Climax on Friday 1st, March.
On that day, Wednesday 28th, February, zones like Bukalasa, Luweero, Bugema, and Bombo will face off in both football and netball.
Lutete and Buzzibwera zones will battle off on Thursday, the 29th, February before Kasala, Wakatai, Katikamu, and Ndejje Square off on Friday 1st, March.
As per the calendar, Interzonal competitions will be played from Wednesday, 13th March, to Friday 15th March.
On Wednesday, 13th March, Bukalasa Zone will face Katikamu zone well as Kasala takes on Luweero at Katikamu Kasaka and Luweero.
On Thursday, 14th March, Bugema Zone will battle Wakatai while Buzzibwera takes on Lutete at Wakatai and Lutete before Ndejje face Bombo Friday 15th, March in Ndejje.
District football competitions will be played on Wednesday, 20th, and March, and Bugema will host well as the regional football competition be played from Wednesday 27th – Saturday 30th March on a venue yet to be communicated.
