SC Villa Ends Boycott Threat, Set for UPL Opener Against KCCA

Kampala, Uganda – Record league champions SC Villa have confirmed they will honor their Uganda Premier League (UPL) opener against rivals KCCA FC this Saturday at Mandela National Stadium, ending weeks of speculation about a potential boycott.

Villa, alongside fellow giants Vipers SC, had threatened to stay away from the league over controversial reforms introduced by FUFA, sparking fears of a disrupted season.

According to club insiders, the standoff was eased earlier this week after Villa began processing licences and player clearances. The club is also expected to meet fan representatives before the weekend clash to formally announce its position.

Meanwhile, Vipers are said to be locked in closed-door talks with FUFA ahead of their highly anticipated fixture against Kitara FC in the 5:00 pm kickoff at the same stadium.

The league’s opening weekend drew low turnouts and visible discontent among fans, reflecting ongoing friction between clubs, supporters, and the federation. With matchday two on the horizon, all eyes are now on how teams and fans will respond to FUFA’s reforms and whether calm can return on and off the pitch.
