Rukare’s Manifesto stands on four strong pillars

The newly expected new Uganda Olympic Committee President, Donald Rukare revealed his manifesto that will guide him in the next four years as the President of that committee.

The manifesto he launched on 16th February 2021 at Hotel Africana Kampala stands on four strong pillars on which he believes will drive Sports forward compared to what his predecessor, William Blick has done.

Speaking with this website, Donald said that those four pillars will be of great importance to Ugandan Sports and Athletes.

“My manifesto that I launched on Tuesday stands on four strong pillars that I think with my team we can do.” Don speaking.

“One, giving support to our athletes, officials, coaches and federations because we think our athletes need to have an echo system that is supported, the issue of facilities but that we shall be working together with ministry of Education, National Council of Sports, development partners and private sector to see how we can advocate for facilities.

The issue about diversifying the resource envelope or funding for the Olympic family, currently we are getting funds from Olympic Solidarity but we also want to get more sources where we get like government, corporate sponsors.”

“Lastly is the strategic partnership, we want to see that we coordinate with other parties here in Uganda, region and international level. But above all we want to see that we put our athletes on the centre of what we are doing.” Rukare explained.

After being confirmed unopposed on the President’s post, now Rukare is going to be at NCS as the board chairperson and UOC as the President.

Many from Sports fraternity criticized him of holding two offices, but in his view, Donald believes that it’s a blessing to sports development in Uganda since both institutions will be moving towards one direction.

“NCS position is not elective like that of UOC, so am not having a permanent job at Council. We only have four sittings in a year and I don’t have an office there.” Don replying his critics.

“I don’t see any problem with having that kind of double vision, in my thinking it helps to create harmony between the two and with the few days have been there, I see an improved relationship now. And this means now we have one strong voice for the development of our Sport.” Said Don.

The elections for Uganda Olympic Committee are set for 27th February 2021 at the Committee’s head offices at Lugogo though many are unopposed.
