‘Learn How to Handle Your Own Blood’,Reverend, Wife Arrested Over Defiled and Impregnated Student

Polìce in Kibuku District in Eastern Uganda have arrested a Reverend and his wife after their son allegedly defiled and impregnated a 15-year-old student.

The reverend, attached to Bukedi Diocese, was arrested on Tuesday 22nd, November 2022 near Kibuku Central Police Station where he had gone to report about the girl’s deteriorating health condition.

Bukedi North Region Police spokesperson, Ms Immaculate Alaso, said they arrested the couple to help with investigations.

Ms Alaso said that the victim, a student at Kibuku Secondary School and a resident of Namawondo 1B Zone in Kibuku Town Council, was taken to hospital for treatment.

Ms Alaso said that the girl disappeared from her parents’ home in September this year, before her father got to learn, weeks later, that she was at the cleric’s (reverend’s) home.

“The father was informed that his daughter was at the reverend’s place very sick. So, they agreed to meet at the gate. The victim had also been brought by Reverend Hannington Wanjala and his wife who intended to report about her poor health to Police,” Ms Alaso added.

When further inquiries were made, it was discovered, according to Ms Alaso, that the girl was pregnant, after she was allegdly defiled by the cleric’s son, a one Emma from their home at St Andrews Church, Kibuku Town Council.

“The victim was taken to the Kibuku Health Center IV for treatment. The police permission for 3A was issued for medical examination of the victim, and statements were obtaìned from her father and other relevant witnesses,” Ms Alaso said.

Ms Also added that the cleric and the wife had been detained, interrogated and statements obtained from them as inquiries continue.

The cleric reportedly told police in his statement that the girl had been staying at his home with their daughter and not his son as was alleged.

“Since she ( the victim) can’t talk, we’ll wait for her to recover and we get her statement, and prefer appropriate charges against the suspects,” Ms Alaso noted.
