Uganda Law Society President, Phionah Nabasa asked Kyagulanyi Lawyers and members of public to respect the High Court and the laws governing the country.

It should be recalled that Kyagulanyi ordered his lawyers to withdraw his petition he filed against the victory of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the just concluded 2021 general Elections and the process is underway.

However, through different media platforms, on many occasions, members of the public and Kyagulanyi Ssentamu lawyers being heard downplaying the credentials and credibility of the Judges of Uganda Supreme Court.

Basing on that background, Uganda Law Society President warned them.

On Tuesday, the president of Uganda law society Phiona Nabasa released a statement saying that recently lawyers and members of the public have been making statements that undermine and ridicule Justices of the High Court in the country.

Phionah Nabasa, Uganda Law Society President

The said advocates and members of the public have continued to appear and discuss the the matter directly under the adjudication before the court on various public Flora contrary to the subjudice rule.
We greatly argue the public to desist from undermining the courts of law as they’re a centre of adjudication and should have any grievances against the court or individual judicial officer, they should utilize lawful channels to address their grievances” The statement reads in part.

Further, Nabasa showed how such dirty utterances from the public paint bad image to the supreme Court.

These dirty unprofessional and dangerous utterances have led to serious public disrespect of the supreme Court with many mimicking the judges in the armophous court of the people” the statement continues to read.

It should be remembered that Kyagulanyi recently in his application to withdraw the 2021 poll petition, he said that he no longer has trust in the supreme and he turned to the public Court to decide the fate.

Reflecting upon the ongoing circumstances. I reached a decision that withdrawing the instant petition is the right thing to do since this court is not handling the petition with Independence, equality and impartiality as I expected.” Kyagulanyi previously said.

However, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny had no kind response to Kyagulanyi and his lawyers against blackmailing the supreme Court and it’s justices who are holding the 2021 election petition.

If you’ve no confidence in us, don’t bring your case here” said Dollo.
