Masaza Cup 2026: Mawogola Secure First Victory of the Season Against Kooki
Mawogola Ssaza Football Team continued their steady rise in the 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup after registering their first victory of the campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kooki Ssaza on Sunday, 5th July 2026, at the Mawogola Ssaza Grounds in Sembabule District.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Katibu Rubankire found the back of the net to hand the home side a well-deserved victory and ignite celebrations among the Mawogola faithful.
The victory marks a significant turnaround for head coach Andrew Mugagga and his charges, who have shown steady improvement since the start of the tournament.
Mawogola opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 away defeat to Butambala Ssaza at Kibibi Secondary School Playground in the Muganzirwazza Group before recovering to earn a 1-1 home draw against Bugerere Ssaza. Sunday’s victory over Kooki now sees the team collect their first three points of the season.
With four points from three matches, Mawogola climb to fourth place in the Muganzirwazza Group standings. They are level on points with third-placed Ssingo, separated only by goal difference, and sit just one point behind second-placed Bugerere, who have accumulated five points from the same number of matches.
Mawogola will now shift their focus to another crucial encounter this weekend when they travel to Mityana Ssaza Grounds to face Ssingo Ssaza in what promises to be a highly competitive fixture.
