Politics: ‘We’re tired of fake elections’, Former Presidential Candidate, Mabirizi advocates for Federal System Referendum

Uganda Citizens Movement dubbed “Sauti ya Wanainchi ” led by Elton Joseph Mabirizi the former Presidential Candidate want National Electoral Commission (EC) to organize a refrendum on Federal system instead of general elections which are not transparent.

While addressing media in Kampala today Mabirizi revealed that in Uganda elections do not have value because even the people elected don’t debate on issues of National importance.

Mabirizi adds that Federal system is the only way to go because every region will be able to work on its social, economic and political issues for development of it’s people.

He calls upon Ugandans to desist from calling federal system government for Buganda region but it is intended to help all Ugandans respective of thier religion,Tribe, political party affiliation among others.

“Federation is not for Buganda, but every region under federal system can handle it’s issues and can have access to it’s resources.” Says Former Presidential Candidate.

He has disclosed that as Sauti ya Wanainchi Movement have started mobilizing masses including religious leaders, Cultural leaders telling them the need to have federal system such that they support the cause.

“We’re not advocating for presidential elections, we’re looking for referendum that’s we have reached out to different entities and chairpersons of local government because they have the authority to pass out resolutions which can give us federal system in Uganda, so come 2026, we’re saying that let us go into referendum to vote whether we go ahead with the governance system the we have today or federal system.” Says Elton Mabirizi, Former Presidential Candidate
