Police Issues Warning, Threatens To Cancel Licenses Of Venues Due To Fireworks

On Thursday 29th, December 2022, at the Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru, a press conference has been held where more than 1400 venues were cleared to display fireworks as Uganda join the rest of the world to welcome 2023 this weekend.

Police have issued tough guidelines to those who wish to do “wrong” things during the celebrations of getting into the new year.

Uganda Police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, said that only 1430 venues, including hotels, gardens, entertainment and prayer venues, have been cleared to display fireworks.

He also added that the assigned commanders from the police have the authority to suspend or terminate the display of fireworks due to weather or any other elements.

In this regard, some of the places that were also cleared include Albertine region, Golden Castle in Hoima, Meka Eco Resort, Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, Catalyst Hillside Resort and so on.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 and 2021, there was no fireworks, meaning that quite a large number of people across the country will be anxiously waiting for the display of fireworks this year, as police also wait to arrest those who will try do it illegally.
