Pilsner UPL Awards 2023: Karisa Takes Four Accolades as Vipers Appear Most on the Podium
Like Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the patron of Vipers SC and Founder of St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende said that they won’t let others win because they [Vipers and Kitende] have won many times.
His statement manifested again on Thursday evening at Sheraton hotel Kampala where the 2022/2023 Pilsner Uganda Premier league season awards were held.
With Karisa being crowned the players of the season, Vipers appeared on the podium the most times, seven like they did last season.
Karisa to take the award that was won last season by former Vipers striker Loki Cesor Manzoki, beat SC Villa striker Charles Bbaale and Maroons FC goalkeeper Simon Tamale on the gong.
The forward matched to the podium three more times at the glamorous awards ceremony held on Thursday evening at Sheraton Hotel Kampala
The Venoms skipper apart from the taking the MVP accolade, Karisa took home award of the player with the most assists of the season (8), coaches’ player of the season and also appeared on the best XI of the season and he has scored nine goals last season.
The other Vipers SC player who stepped on the podium twice is the defender, Hillary Mukundane, he was voted the best defender of the season and appeared on the best XI list while their coach, Alex Isabirye was named the best coach of the season. Isabirye beat Jackson Magera of SC Villa and Muhammed Ssenfuma of Maroons FC.
Since it was an awarding day, Tamale Simon, former Maroons FC custodian voted the best goalkeeper of the season, secured 13 clean sheets and won the most player of the match awards as well as winning two best player of that month accolades in the season. He beat Alionzi of URA and Ssekajja
Relegated Blacks Power FC was given the Fair Play Award for their good discipline last season where they only picked up 30 yellow cards and no single red.
Allan Kayiwa took the Top goalscorers award for netting the most goals in the league (13) to beat off Charles Bbaale.
