Pepsi University Football League: Ruthless UCU Turns King into ‘Queen’ Ceasor as Ssekisambu nets Hat-trick

Former champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) produced a dominant performance as they crushed newcomers King Ceasor University (KCU) 6–1 in the Pepsi University Football League on Wednesday at the YES Centre in Nsambya.

The 2019 champions showed no mercy to the debutants, putting on a dazzling attacking display led by sharp-shooting forward Ssekisambu Reagan, who bagged the first hat-trick of the 13th edition. Captain Ogola Patrick added a brace, while substitute Nyanzi Haruna also found the back of the net.

The Mukono-based side took control early in the game, with Ssekisambu opening the scoring in the 23rd minute after a composed finish. He doubled the lead 12 minutes later with a precise strike, giving UCU a comfortable 2–0 lead going into the halftime break.

After the restart, UCU continued to dominate possession and dictate the tempo. In the 58th minute, skipper Ogola Patrick converted from the penalty spot after Ofoyrwoth Isaac was brought down in the box by a desperate KCU defender.

Ssekisambu completed his memorable hat-trick in the 64th minute, tapping in from close range after a fine low cross from Ofoyrwoth on the left wing. Substitute Nyanzi Haruna added the fifth goal in the 73rd minute, before Ogola capped off the rout with a clever chip in the 84th minute to complete his brace.

King Ceasor University grabbed a late consolation in the 88th minute when Atusiginire Arnold scored from the penalty spot — their first-ever goal in the competition.

The result marked UCU’s first win of the season, bouncing back in style after their opening-day home defeat to Ndejje University. For King Ceasor University, it was a second consecutive loss, having earlier fallen to Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).

The league continues on Thursday with a mouthwatering fixture between three-time losing finalists St. Lawrence University (SLAU) and two-time champions Makerere University Business School (MUBS) at Nakivubo Stadium.
