Pepsi UFL: This time round, it’s only football, No Petitions as MUBS Propel to Quarters

Makerere University Business School 1-0 YMCA

The 2014 and 2015 champions, Makerere University Business School made becomes the third University behind Kampala University and Makerere University to propel to the quarter finals of the 11th edition of Pepsi University Football League.

MUBS to hit this milestone, they have defeated YMCA by 1-0 score in the game held on Friday afternoon at MUBS main campus playground at Nakawa.

Lasu Thomas scored the only goal that propelled MUBS to quarters with one game to spare in group B.

Thomas, the usual suspect who punished YMCA at their home ground at Buwambo in first leg, the same person returned at the fine time to punish them again when he converted the penalty in the 5th minute of first half.

The win moved MUBS to 13 points in five games, four points better than second placed IUIU.

“Like I have been saying, our target was to qualify out of this group and we have achieved it, yes we didn’t play the entertaining football today but a win remains a win.” Says Zzinda Ali, MUBS assistant coach after the boring match.

MUBS is one of University in this league that are good at petitioning the organizers in case of any unsporting issues and the most recent one is the petition that came against Kyambogo University last season at quarters, but this time round they haven’t petitioned any, it’s only football this time round.

YMCA lost their third game of the season, which put them out of the race this season, they sit third on the log with four points, their Tactician, Michael Kalyesubula asserted that the poor start of the league costed them.

“We have conceded a penalty in the first minutes, we have tried to come back into the game, we got chances but we didn’t convert them.” Says Michael Kalyesubula.

“Yes the season has been not good, we started with a lot of expectations, we have good players but unfortunately we lost our first games, but we still believe that next time we shall be better.” He gave account of the season with one game to go.
