Quarter-Final: First Leg

Bugema 1-1 UMU

Bugema University and Uganda Martyrs University shared spoils in their first leg of the Pepsi University League second quarter final following a one all draw at Bugema University Playground on Tuesday afternoon.

The hosts Bugema first had a lead through Dennis Kimuli before Sunny Kaija leveled the matters for the visitors from Nkozi.

The Nyanzi Medhi coached side had a strong start and earned a penalty when Isaac Ssenyunja was fouled by Saddam Omukoboi in the box, 11 minutes into first stanza.

Kimuli stepped up and converted it to make it 1-0 for the home side, but despite being dominant, Bugema could not add another goal, and 1-0 they led at the break.

The second stanza began with Bugema in search of a second goal but they were not clinical enough.

Soon after, Uganda Martyrs University started to grow in confidence and equalized in the 59th minute thanks to Kaija’s goal.

Both teams tried much to find a winning goal but it could not come thus settling for a draw to set a do or die contest in second leg that’s to be held at Nkozi, Uganda Martyrs University main Campus.

Action in the quarterfinals of the Pepsi University Football League continues on Thursday with defending champions Uganda Christian University away to Nkumba University.
