Parliament to Celebrate Onyango’s Work at Cranes- Kadaga

At the alpha of this month of April, Mamelodi Sundowns custodian, Denis Masinde Onyango officially announced his retirement at the Uganda National team, the Cranes.

A number of mixed reactions came out from different corners of the nation, some congratulating him for the good work he has done at the national team since 2005, while others were saying, he still had more to offer at the team as a skipper as well as a custodian but Eng Moses Magogo’s uncalled for statements forced Onyango to retire.

It should be recalled that the Current FUFA president Magogo while addressing media, he said that the Cranes Players especially those who represented Uganda in 2021 CHAN championship, they played nothing and deserve no payment.

This annoyed many including Denis Onyango who later reacted via a leaked audio that he can no longer play for FUFA guys who do not appreciate.

Over the weekend, Twitter users in Uganda started a move asking Parliament and Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga to have a parliamentary session only to honor the good works Onyango did for Uganda in his 16 year tenure.

#CelebratingALegend” Bugingo Hannington, a super Comedian tweeted yesterday.

In reply, Kadaga said;

“I agree entirely with the proposal for a motion of recognition for Dennis Onyango, I shall instruct the parliament sports team to act. Am a great fan of Dennis Onyango and the Cranes @UgandaCranes“

Currently it’s three players who have retired from National team, that is Denis Masinde Onyango ring leader, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, and Micheal Azira.

Now the nation is waiting to see whether the Parliament will put the request into consideration.

In his tenure as a captain Onyango guided Uganda to two consecutive AFCON finals, 2017 in Gabon and 2019 in Egypt.
