Omega Soccer Academy Uganda Impresses at Iteen International Cup in Rwanda

Omega Soccer Academy Uganda put in a commendable showing at the 3rd edition of the Iteen International Cup Rwanda, as youth teams from across East Africa converged at Tarpi Rouge Stadium in Nyamirambo, Kigali, from December 17 to 18.
The tournament attracted several academies from the region, offering a competitive stage for emerging football talent to test their abilities against top youth sides. Omega Soccer Academy featured in three age categories—Under-12, Under-15 and Under-17—taking on strong opposition from Rwanda and neighboring countries.
Despite being a relatively young institution, founded in 2019, Omega Soccer Academy stood out with disciplined performances across all categories. The highlight of their campaign came from the Under-15 boys’ team, which secured bronze medals after finishing third overall, underlining the academy’s steady rise on the regional youth football scene.
Omega’s progress has been built on consistent participation in competitive football. Since 2022, the academy has been a regular participant in Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) competitions and has also featured in FUSSA tournaments. These experiences, according to academy officials, have played a key role in shaping the players’ confidence, discipline and ability to compete at higher levels.
Currently, the academy runs structured programs for Under-12, Under-15 and Under-17 age groups, with a clear focus on long-term player development. The leadership believes that early exposure to competitive football is essential in laying a strong foundation for future success.
Speaking about the academy’s vision, Omega Soccer Academy founder Bob Mawande emphasized the importance of grassroots development. He noted that the academy’s mission is to nurture young players holistically and eventually contribute well-prepared talent to Uganda’s football ecosystem.
Based in Mbalwa, Namugongo, Omega Soccer Academy conducts training sessions every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to midday. During school holidays, additional sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The academy boasts well-equipped facilities and licensed coaches committed to developing both the technical and personal growth of young footballers.
Omega Soccer Academy’s performance in Rwanda not only reflects its growing ambition but also highlights the increasing competitiveness of Ugandan youth football on the regional stage. As the academy continues to invest in structured training and exposure, its presence at international youth tournaments signals a promising future for the players and for grassroots football development in Uganda.
