AUUS Games 2025: Victoria University Dethrone Martyrs, Takes the Gold as UMU Settles for Rugby’s Silver

The Victoria University delivered another statement of supremacy after successfully wins their title, overpowering the competition with a campaign defined by crushing victories, iron clad defence, and attacking brutality.
Once again, Victoria University and Uganda Martyrs University stood head and shoulders above the rest, replaying last season’s gold-and-silver order. But when the dust settled, it was Victoria University who stood tallest champions by dominance, champions by numbers, champions by authority.
Victoria University tore through the series with four commanding victories and just one narrow loss, sealing gold on superior try count.
Their campaign began with a 22–0 demolition of Makerere University, a warning shot that echoed across the competition. Kyambogo University were next, swept aside 28–0 as Victoria tightened their grip.
The champions then unleashed their full firepower against Kampala International University, running riot in a 47–5 annihilation, before completing their dominance with a 33–7 dismantling of Uganda Christian University.
Only Uganda Martyrs University managed to halt the charge, edging Victoria 14–12 in a tense showdown but even that momentary setback could not derail the champions.
Uganda Martyrs University mounted a brave and disciplined challenge, finishing with three wins, one draw, and one loss to claim the silver medal. Their victory over Victoria proved their credentials but consistency and scoring power ultimately separated first from second. Makerere University settled for a bronze after finishing third out of the six men’s series.
By the end of the series, the message was deafening but Victoria University didn’t just defend their title, they defended their throne.
They didn’t just dominate the standings but they defined the standard university rugby grows fiercer and deeper, one truth remains unchanged that Victoria University are still the empire of university rugby.
