Olympics: ‘Famous’ Ssekitoleko Becomes ‘a Hard nut to Crack’, Police Still Struggling to find a Case to Charge Against Him

Now past 48 hours, the Constitution of Uganda allows Uganda Police to keep and person in their cells before presented to courts of Law or given a bond and set free, but the Jinja Road Police Station are still stack with weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko in their custody.

For starters, Julius Ssekitoleko was among the first Ugandan Contingent that went to Japan in June getting ready for Tokyo 2020 Olympic games that are currently underway.

On 16th July 2021, reports circulated indicating that the 20 year old weightlifter went missing after learning that his is going to be brought back to Uganda since he didn’t qualify for the games.

The search for him both in Japan and Uganda commenced but before his visa expired, he presented himself to local police in Japan, to cut the story short, on Friday morning, 23rd, Ssekitoleko arrived at Entebbe International Airport and was received by the officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education and Sports.

Instead of taking him to his home or state house as the only Ugandan who disappeared and freely returned back among the 16, he was taken to Kibuli CID headquarters, who later drove him to Jinja Road Police Station where he is still untill now but with no charge so fer recorded against him.

Today, Monday, 26, July 2021, the Shadow Minister for Sports, Hon. Solo Kayemba and the Union of Uganda Sports Federations and Associations Executive paid a visit to Jinja Road Police Station to find out what’s really taking place and which charges are against the athlete.

According to Kayemba, the Police so far doesn’t have any charge placed against Ssekitoleko because he doesn’t have any crime he committed.

According to our reporter, the Police officer in Charge of Ssekitoleko’s file at Jinja Road Police Station, understood as CID General Crime Tofa Gimeyi said that he forwarded the file to the Inspector General of Police, Afande Martin Okoth Ochola to see how they can let Ssekitoleko out of their Custody.

The Union of Uganda Sports Federations as Associations Executives revealed that before the closure of business today, Ssekitoleko will be released.
