Olympics: Ssekitoleko Situation Traumatize Us Here- Halima Nakayi
The 2019 World Athletics Championship, Gold medal winner in 800 metres, Halima Nakayi revealed that how the government handled their fellow athlete traumatize them in Japan.
Ssekitoleko Julius since he was deported from Japan last week on claims that he disappeared from Training camp in Tokyo, he is still in police custody at Jinja Road Police Station but with no charge so far put against him.
Halima Nakayi, the Uganda’s 800m runner, who is part of the Uganda Olympic team in Tokyo revealed that people should come out and fight for the rights of Ssekitoleko because as athletes, they go through a lot and yet they get limited or no help to be where they are.
“Ofcourse we are not happy with the way Julius [Ssekitoleko] is handled, this wouldn’t be the right time, when our fellow athlete is not ok, it also affects us here, as Athletes, we sacrifice a lot to see that we represent our nations.” Halima Nakayi said in an interview.
” It’s so painful, because I Know today is Ssekitoleko, tomorrow might be Halima, so I kindly request everyone who can help Ssekitoleko because he has been doing his best to represent his country. I request those in charge to set him free even us here, we will focus on our games when we know that our fellow athlete is free.” Halima Nakayi added.
About her preparations, Halima asserted that she is in good shape and ready to offer the best for her country in the games and she brings it’s the right time to make a difference.
“I am going to give my best to represent Uganda, the preparation here been going on well and I think this is the right time to offer my best.”
Nakayi is among the athletes,Uganda has hope in to win medals in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics,
Briefly who is Nakayi?
Halimah Nakaayi (born 16 October 1994) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, in the women’s 800 metres.[2] She was the flag bearer for Uganda in the closing ceremony. Her biggest success is a gold medal in the 800m at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.
