Olympics 2020: 100 Days Count Down To Tokyo Starts

Uganda is among the nations that is waiting to take part in the most prestigious sports event in the world, the Olympic games.

And the 32nd edition of this event will be held in Tokyo Japan in July 2021.

Yesterday, at their head offices at Lugogo, Uganda Olympic Committee and the National Council of Sports launched the campaign of the 100 days countdown to Tokyo 2021 Olympics. 

The national Games coordination committee is setting up a plan to professionally run publicity campaign in the run of the event and to motivate the athletes and they want to move the campaign to different media platforms.

“The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of the games and support team Uganda before and during the games.” Said Chief demissor of the Games task force, Beatrice Ayikoru while addressing media on Tuesday afternoon.

“During the course of the countdown, we hope to share amazing stories of Uganda at the Olympic Games since 1956, the first time Uganda was represented at the Games and also share high-billed profiles of the current team to the 2020 Olympic Games.” She added.

As we speak now, tentatively Uganda has qualified 23 athletes to Olympics, three from Boxing, one from Rowing, the rest are from Athletics.

Uganda will be represented by seven disciplines if their athletes qualifies, that is; Athletics, Boxing, Rowing, Swimming, Weightlifting, Rugby sevens and skating.

During the course of their preparations to Games, the UOC have gotten a financial boost from Absa Uganda that has injected in 54.5M Uganda shillings that will cater for medical and training kits.

Donald Rukare, Uganda Olympic Committee president said that such partnerships shall keep on coming.
