Netball: UNF Gets a New Face, Babirye Kityo Appoints Working Executive

Following the constitution amendments made and approved by the 2022 Annual General Assembly held at Old Kampala SS on Friday 24th February 2022, the Uganda Netball Federation President with the powers entrusted in her, she made changes in the federation executive.

For starters, Uganda Netball Federation elected it’s new executive on 05th June 2021 but due to contradictions in the NFL constitution, the review Commission was created and the findings and Amendments were presented before the deciding body which is the AGM and approved all the Amendments which also called for the change of structure of UNF executive, elections and the running of the business.

Among the Amendments, president was given mandate to appoint five executive members from five regions that constitutes Netball constituency in Uganda. This meant that some of the previous elective positions like; General Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Vice president technical and Vice President Administration were scrapped off, to fill those vacant places, the president had to appoint members immediately after the constitution amendment process is finalized.

Today, the federation released a document that indicates the new appointments.

One of the hardworking Netball administrators, Mpoza Denis is among the members who benefited from the constitution amendments, he was appointed the EXCOM member from Kampala Region.

The former assistant General Secretary, Harriet Apolot Margret was appointed the third vice president while Brig. Genm Flavia Byekwaso appointed the first vice president while the Northern Region representative, Brian Ojuku is now the second Vice president. 

“According to the Uganda Netball constitution as amended on the 25th/02/2022 by the Annual General Assembly; Article Eleven (g) ‘the president shall appoint the five Executive members based on the five UNF regions and from within the delegates.” The letter reads.

“Given the powers vested in me by the Uganda Netball Constitution, I take this opportunity to appoint; Brig. General Flavia Byekwaso (Central), Ms. Apolot Harriet Margret (Eastern), Ms. Saidia Loice (Northern),Mr. Mpoza Denis (Kampala), Ms. Nabacwa Hanifa (western)”

According to constitution, the executive will comprise of 13 members, Elected president, five members appointment by the president, five elected from regions, one elected to represent Clubs and one elected member to represent Special Interest groups.

The new executive committee of Uganda Netball Federation:

President: Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah

First Vice President: Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso

Second Vice president: Mr. Brian Ojuku

Third Vice president: Ms. Apolot Harriet Margret

Appointed Members: 

Saidia Loice (Northern),Mpoza Denis (Kampala Region), Nabacwa Hanifa (Western Region).

Elected Regional Representatives;

Mrs. Rosette Namuli Kaala Mutyaba (Kampala), Mr. Bashir Kwerebera (Western Region),  Mudhasi Ronald (Eastern) and Kibira James (Central)

This executive will have it’s first EXCOM meeting on 29th March 2022.
