Netball Commonwealth: ‘You must Respect us’, She Cranes Shuts Down Noisy Malawians to Book a date with SA

Uganda’s National Netball team, She Cranes climaxed group B fixtures of 2022 Commonwealth games underway in Birmingham with a 56-43 victory against close competitors in Malawi.

Going into the game honored on Thursday evening at NEC Arena, both sides, Uganda and Malawi wanted to secure two points to at least complete the group stage games honorably and book a meeting with a third placed side from group A for a classification position games.

Prior to the real match, fans from both nations, (Uganda and Malawi), had a number of social media fights and the game on court decided.

Not like in the previous games, Uganda started on a high note even when they went three goals down in the opening minutes of the first quarter, they got the mantle to leapfrog the Malawi Queens and the it ended 14-11 in favor of Uganda.

In the second quarter, Malawi tried to get back into the game but again Uganda managed them and the netted 13  and Uganda put 14 to have half time score at 28-24.

With all departments working well for Uganda, Fred Mugerwa made one chance in third quarter, introducing Margret Baagala in for Jesca Achan and in her spell on court, Margret’s impact was felt especially in defending and balancing the team. In this quarter, Uganda’s darlings scored less but again the side conceded less, only nine.

In the last quarter, Mugerwa also made two changes, he brought on Norah Lunkuse and Peace Proscovia for Stella Oyella and Mary Nuba who had a better game on the day and in this last quarter, Uganda scored 15 to 10 for Malawi to give a final score of 56-43.

This is the second time in three meetings, Uganda managed to beat Malawi two times and a draw, and the two sides have another chance to meet again in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers set to be held in South Africa between 20th and 27th August 2022.

Statistically Uganda’s conversion rate in this game was at 95% compared to that of Malawi which was at 91% in total.

Out of the 56 scored goals for Uganda, Mary Nuba Cholhok converted 31 goals, Irene Eyaru scored 22 out of the 23 changes she got on the ring and Peace Proscovia scored three goals. 

Uganda finished third on the group B log with six points in five games and they are meeting South Africa for 5th position classification match set for Friday evening.
