Musenero Pirots Engineering for a primary Sustainable Solution

The science and technology minister, Dr. Monica Musenero has lauded the critical role of engineering in addressing the world’s growing challenges calling for increased investment in innovation and youths talent development to drive Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
Addressing the media on Wednesday during the launch of the 11th UNESCO Africa engineering week and 9th African engineering Conference, Dr. Musenero described engineering as the only hope and immediate solution for the world’s challenges.
“During this rapid change and comple global challenges, it’s only engineering that has got a solution since 70% of our living is engineered” She said.
The minister also noted that engineering is soon becoming the backbone of Uganda’s economy as the sector has grown 30% in a few years as she referred to the Kira motors who have resorted to manufacturing almost every part they use on their vehicles and importing a few for study purposes and very soon also tyres will be started on.
“With engineering by 2040 it will be the backbone of our economy because we are now far from assembling to locally manufacturing almost every part used to assemble a vehicle very soon we shall start exporting them” she added.
The upcoming engineering week is slated to take place at speke resort munyonyo from 14th to 20th September 2025 is expected to attract more than a thousand engineers across Africa and it is hosted by the Uganda Institute of Professional engineers (UIPE) in partnership with UNESCO, STI, the World Federation of Engineering Organisation, the Federation of of African Engineering Organisation (FAEO) among other.
As this event is hosted in Uganda, it will not only serve as strong signal on how cutting edge engineering is the stronghold solution of the critical issues facing Africa but also opening up unprecedented opportunities to the entire engineering sector.
Eng. Bosco Lepi the president of UIPE appealed to uganda’s to use this platform to show case their innovations and technologies designed to address the challenges in several sectors ranging from Agriculture, mining, infrastructure and others than their foreign counterparts.
Hello also stressed to the outcomes and expectations of the conference where they are to come up with resolutions aiming at ensuring that what is of value to the people it is prioritized by relevant institutions over the rest.
The first engineering week was first launched in 2014 aiming at inspiring young Africans to pursue careers in engineering and promote the profession role in advancing the sustainable development goals (DGS).
